What is SAP R/3?
SAP R/3, Client/Server based Application, defines it’s 3 tiered model.
- Presentation Layer (GUI) - Client’s interface with user.
- Application Layer - Application runs on this layer. It contains Logic specific to business.
- Database Layer - ABAP programs are stored in SAP database. Stores information about system, retrievable from commands programed by the end user programmer through presentation Layer.
SAP R/3 functions are based on their own developed language ABAP. ABAP stands for Advanced Application Programing originally known as Allgemeiner Berichts - Aufbereitungs - Prozessor = general report creation processor is a high level programing specification language created by the German software Company SAP.
ABAP/4 represents the 4th generation language G/L4. The term G/L4 was first used by James Martin in his book Application Development without Program.
SAP R/3 was officially launched in 1992. SAP R/3 a client/sever application software introduced by SAP AG, it was manageable on multiple platforms and operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows or UNIX.
SAP R/1 was the first version software of financial Accounting Real-time data processing system launched in 1972.
SAP R/2 was launched In 1979. SAP R/2 a developed real-time ERP-Enterprise Resource Planning Software followed by company’s first product Material Management module RM/1. SAP R/2 main features were, processed real-time on a mainframe computer, used the time sharing option, integrated with an enterprise’s functions i.e., Accounting, Manufacturing process, Supply chain logistics and Human Resources.
SAP R/3 officially launched in 1993, was an enhanced version from mainframe computing to client-server architectures.
