Blocking port numbers 2301 & 2381
IT Security department, I hate them so much.
I know it is important, but what heck they simply run some vulnerability tool and revert back with huge list of low, medium and high risk of vulnerabilities, In the end it is the system administrator fixing each and every issue, search for solutions if not provided by the tool, test it, take proper approval, RFC and list goes on and on.
Well, system administrator’s we could have a good life with proper server hardening procedures in place when we prepare the server initially. Anyways, now back to the topic.
My adorable mates, the security department wanted me to check and block Ports 2301 & 2381. These ports are used by the HP system management software, a server management utility by HP.
To block: Stop the HP system management service
To stop the service: Start>Programs>Administrative tool> services>single click on the HP system management service and stop the service.
To Test: Start>run>cmd>type telnet server_name 2301 or 2381
